According to Webster’s dictionary essential means “of the utmost importance: BASIC, INDISPENSABLE, NECESSARY”. So simple to understand in theory and yet so difficult to apply in our lives.

Who or what will define “what is essential” to us is an intriguing question to answer.

A friend of mine, who is a CEO of a midsized insurance company, recently called up to check on my well being and during the conversation, we had an interesting discussion. Some questions both of us asked ourselves.

Does it make a difference whether you own a Maruti or a Mercedez, when your car is lying idle in the parking lot?

Whether Titan or Tissot, both when working well show the same time, does it make sense to indulge in a brand.

There are no right or wrong answers to these questions, it is purely what one consider as essentials. Especially during these trying times, when you are exchanging your hard earned money against something, it is even more important to ask “ is this an essential ?”.
